Major foreign airport operators teamed up with seven local consortiums to bid for the P17.5-billion Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the Transportation Department said Monday.
The Transportation Department said from the original 12 joint venture groups that earlier expressed interest to bid for the project, seven consortiums submitted the bid documents for the expansion and operation of the second busiest airport in the country, next to Manila.
Among the foreign airport companies that joined the bidding are those that operate airports in France, India, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland and the United States.
They include Aeroports de Lyon of France, ADC&AHS Airports Worldwide Inc. of the United States, Changi Airports Mena Pte. Ltd. of Singapore, Incheon International Airport of South Korea, Wellington International Airport Ltd. of New Zealand, Zurich Airport International AG of Switzerland and Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd. of India.
Aeroports de Lyon joined the Metro Pacific-JG Summit Airport Consortium while ADC&AHS teamed up with AAA Airport Partners of Aboitiz Equity Ventures and Ayala Corp. Changi is part of consortium led by Filinvest Development Corp. while Incheon Airport Co. teamed up with San Miguel Corp.
Wellington International Airport Ltd. joined First Philippine Airports led by First Philippine Holdings while Zurich Airport International AG of Switzerland took part in Premier Airport Group led by SM Investments Corp.
Delhi International Airport (P) Ltd. of India joined the group of GMR Infrastructure Ltd. and Megawide Construction Corp.
The airport project involves the construction of a new world-class international passenger terminal building on Mactan island with a capacity of about 8 million passengers a year; renovation and expansion of the existing terminal; installation of all the required equipment; and the operation of both new and existing facilities.
Aeroports de Lyon of France teamed up with the consortium of Metro Pacific Investment Corp. and JG Summit Holdings. Other members are Manila North Tollways Corp., Leighton Contractors Philippines Inc., Bougues Batiment International, Hyundai Engineering and Construction Co. Ltd., EGIS Avia, Pascal+ Watson Ltd., Advanced Logistics Group, Prointec SA, Ove Arup and Partners Hong Kong Ltd. and Integrated Designs Associated Ltd.
