JETRO’s Public-Private Partnership Seminar
“Japanese Contribution to Philippine Infrastructure Development”

Sharing of relevant experiences and prospects-setting on public-private partnerships (PPPs), aided by a historical view on Japanese investments in the Philippines, will form part of highlights of Japan External Trade Organization’s (JETRO) Public-Private Partnership Seminar.

Held in collaboration with the Government of the Philippines’ PPP Center, JETRO’s seminar is entitled “Japanese Contribution to Philippine Infrastructure Development.”  It will be on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel and will cover key areas on the situation and challenges of infrastructure development in the Philippines, as well as the contribution of Japanese private investors to infrastructure development.

Situationers and discussions in the sectors of energy, water, information and communications technology, and transportation are coupled with presentations on contributions of Japanese investments in these areas. Substantial focus is also rendered on technologies and insights on disaster preparedness as well as lessons learned by the transport sector in the aftermath of the Great East Japan Earthquake.

A message of President Benigno S. Aquino III will be presented during the opening. Japanese Vice Minister for International Affairs, Mr. Hideichi Okada, of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, leads the panel of Japanese speakers and presenters while Socio-Economic Planning Secretary Cayetano W. Paderanga leads the Philippine officialdom participating in the JETRO PPP Seminar.

Secretary Paderanga speaks of recent efforts on infrastructure development in the country including the impetus the Aquino Administration provides to spur the growth of PPPs in the context of inclusive growth.

Other guests invited to present on their respective spheres are Public Works and Highways Secretary Rogelio Singson, Transportation and Communications Undersecretary Rene Limcaoco, and Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Chairman Ramon Alikpala.

JETRO Executive Vice President Hiroaki Isobe leads up to the Business Networking segment of the seminar.

PPP Center Executive Director Cosette V. Canilao notes the enthusiasm with which the JETRO organized the PPP Seminar which sharpens business-matching activities of both countries and strengthens the cooperative stances of both countries in embarking on PPP projects.

Executive Director Canilao expresses the PPP Center’s recognition of the strategic role played by the JETRO in underscoring to Japanese investors the opportunities while collaborating with the Philippine government to fast track the nation’s infrastructure growth using applicable innovations and systems developed by Japanese companies and Japanese-led projects.
