OCBA on Special Topic on Sectoral PPPs: Solid Waste Management (SWM) Projects

In cooperation with Singapore-based Infrastructure Asia and Asian Development Bank’s provision of technical assistance, the PPP Center held an online capacity building activity on Special Topic on Sectoral PPPs: Solid Waste Management (SWM) Projects on March 25-26, 2021 via MS Teams.

With the objective to guide local government units (LGUs) in the preparation of sound and viable SWM-PPP Projects, the PPP Center gathered 64 participants from 13 LGUs across the country. The LGU participants were from Antipolo City; Bacolod City; Baguio City; Province of Bataan; Cauayan City; Davao City; General Santos City; Ormoc City; Pasig City; Quezon City; Municipality of Roxas, Isabela; Province of South Cotabato; and Municipality of Tolosa, Leyte. The LGUs have expressed their intent to develop and implement SWM-PPPs and a few of them are already in the advanced project stages.

The two-day activity covered topics on the basics on SWM, waste management in the Philippines, waste treatment technologies, waste value chain and opportunities, importance of private sector participation in SWM projects, Singapore’s SWM sector, SWM-PPP models and projects, SWM case studies and possible waste management solutions for the Philippines.

The panel of experts and speakers who shared their know-how included Mr. Jon Alan M. Cuyno, Solid Waste Management Specialist (ADB National Consultant); Infrastructure Asia’s Deputy Executive Director Kow Juan Tiang; Deputy Director Kwok Wai Choong and Assistant Director Raymond Koh from the Industry Development and Promotion Department of Singapore’s National Environment Agency; Director Lim Wen Bin and Ms. Cynthia Hernandez from KPMG; Keppel Seghers’ Executive Director Jackson Goh; and Mr. Kunal Shah, Managing Director & Regional Business Development Head, Asia Pacific at Anaergia Inc.
