The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently conducted the Philippines-Australia Senior Officials’ Trade, Investment and Industry Dialogue (PATIID) in Makati last December 7, 2015. The dialogue is a mechanism for more focused discussions on trade, investments and other related issues between the two countries.

During the event, the Australian delegation congratulated the Philippines for pushing the PPP Agenda forward in infrastructure development. Australian First Assistant Secretary Allaster Cox recognized the country’s progress in undertaking PPPs.

“The Philippines is fast emerging as the regional leader in the ASEAN in bringing PPP projects to the market. It has gained a very positive reputation in the region,” Cox added.

The PPP Center, represented by Deputy Executive Director Eleazar E. Ricote, underscored the valuable contribution of the Australian government in the progress of PPP in the Philippines.

“We thank the government of Australia for its continued support to the PPP Program and the PPP Center, particularly in building up the pipeline of projects through the Project Development and Monitoring Fund (PDMF), and in the various PPP policy and institutional development and strengthening efforts,” said Deputy Executive Director Ricote.

Earlier this year, the PPP Center held several roadshows in Sydney and Melbourne to promote PPP investment opportunities. A series of policy dialogues were also held aimed towards improving the overall PPP legal and institutional framework in the Philippines.

Back in 2011, the Philippine Government received a Capacity Development Technical Assistance (CDTA) to strengthen the country’s PPP Program and its institutions which is supported by the Asian Development Bank and the Governments of Australia and Canada.
