The Public-Private Partnership Center of the Philippines (PPP Center) and the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which formalized their partnership in building and improving the capacities of local government units (LGUs) to formulate, develop, implement, and monitor key projects using the PPP scheme.

Recognizing the potential role of LGUs and the critical private sector contribution in national development, the Center ensures the development of viable and well-prepared PPP projects by enabling LGUs to undertake vital infrastructure and development projects to address the needs in their localities.

The PPP Center and the DILG will work closely to provide target LGUs with capacity development interventions throughout the whole project cycle. Among these are training and technical assistance in the various stages of PPP project development and the provision of knowledge products such as information and campaign materials to guide LGUs in their PPP engagements.

The MOA signing was held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) on October 11, 2011 as part of the DILG’s 20th anniversary celebration of the Local Government Code of 1991 dubbed as “Biyaheng Pinoy: Tapat na Palakad, Bayang Maunlad.

MOA signatories were DILG Undersecretary for the Local Government Sector Austere A. Panadero and PPP Center Executive Director Cosette V. Canilao. Also present as witnesses were PPP Center’s Director for Capacity Building and Knowledge Management Service Eleazar Ricote and DILG’s Bureau of Local Government Development Director Manuel Gotis.
