Metro Pacific Tollways South Corp. (MPT South), a unit of Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC), is aiming to open the first 10-kilometer portion of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway (Calax) by late July.

Construction of the Mamplasan to Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road segment is expected to be done by June, MPT South President Roberto Bontia told reporters late last month.

“We’re targeting to open by July of this year. That’s the plan, to operate it by end of July,” he told reporters at the sidelines of an event last February 28.
DM Consunji, Inc. is in charge of the construction of the Laguna portion while Leighton, a unit of Australia-based CIMIC Group Ltd., was tapped for the Cavite end.

The Cavite side has seen delays caused by right-of-way issues but Bontia said construction of section three could start by the “second or third week of March.”

For sections two and one, he said they expected to receive right of way by June.

The P35.4-billion infrastructure project involves the construction of a 44.6-kilometer, 4-lane toll road from the Cavite Expressway in Kawit, Cavite to the South Luzon Expressway Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.

Target completion is set for 2021, Bontia said.
