CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, April 2 (PIA) — Regional Development Council (RDC) 3 have passed a resolution endorsing the Central Luzon component of the Public-Private Partnership for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP) of the Department of Education (DepEd).

RDC said, “The project seeks to address the estimated classroom shortage of about 150,000 units for kinder, elementary and high school levels come 2016 as a result of the country’s ballooning population and DepEd’s implementation of K+12 Basic Education and Education for All programs.”

The council added, “The Public-Private Partnership scheme will be adopted as a financing strategy for PSIP to increase the capacity of DepEd in building classrooms without affecting its share of the national budget pie.”

The project initially eyes for the construction of 9,332 classrooms for 2,262 target elementary and secondary schools in Regions 1,3 and 4A.

PSIP’s Central Luzon component consists of building 2,999 classrooms for 656 schools at a total estimated cost of P3.257 billion.

RDC 3 is the highest policy-making body in Central Luzon and serves as the counterpart of the National Economic Development Authority Board at the subnational level.

It is the primary institution that coordinates and sets the direction of all economic and social development efforts in the region and serves as a forum where local efforts can be related and integrated with national development activities.

Council members include all governors, city mayors, municipal mayors of capital towns, presidents of municipal mayors’ league, regional directors of national government agencies and representatives from the private sector. (WLB/CLJD-PIA3)
