AROUND eight more public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth at least $1.12 billion may be ready for either bidding or rollout by the end of 2012, according to data obtained from the PPP Center.

In a document, the PPP Center stated that there are three projects that are awaiting approval from the National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) Board. Once approved,

the bidding process for these projects may already start.

Another five projects may be rolled out in the second half of the year. This means that these projects may already be submitted for evaluation of the Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) this year. The three projects that are awaiting Neda Board approval are the $128.3-million Modernization of Philippine Orthopedic Center; the $11.3-million Vaccine Self-Sufficiency Project Phase II; and the $468.8-million Cavite-Laguna Expressway.

Four projects of the five projects up for rollout in the second half of 2012 but may be launched this quarter are the $42.9-million Automatic Fare Collection System, $190.5-million New Bohol Panglao Airport, $241.7-million Mactan Cebu International Airport Passenger Terminal Building, and the $38.1-million Operations and Maintenance of the Angat Hydro-Electric Power Plant Turbines 4 and 5. The fifth project is the Operations and Maintenance of the Puerto Princesa Airport. Its cost is still being determined but it is slated for rollout within the last quarter of 2012.

The PPP Center also stated that the invitations to pre-qualify and bid (ITPB) for the $377.6-million Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway Phase II would be sent out this month and for the $480.5-million North Luzon Expressway-South Luzon Expressway Connector, next month.

Projects that are in the bidding process include the $239-million PPP for School Infrastructure Project Phase I. The PPP Center said the technical and financial proposals for this project were submitted last week.

Another project in the bidding process is the $1.4-billion Light Rail Transit Line 1 Cavite Extension and Operations and Maintenance. The pre-qualification documents for the project are slated for release on August 22 this year.

Earlier, Neda Director General Arsenio Balisacan said PPP projects will play a major part in making the economy move forward. He added that the PPP Center has listed 22 projects under the PPP program. These projects intend to improve transportation connectivity, boost agricultural productivity, expand water services and raise the quality of education and health.
