THE Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) on Thursday said both the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) and the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEx) will start accepting payments through PayMaya and contactless payment system “beep” by the first quarter of next year.
MNTC is the concessionaire for both the NLEx and the SCTEx projects. It is also one of the original proponents for the connector road project linking North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway.
“Beep card and PayMaya testing is ongoing. NLEx will start by early next year or January, while SCTEx to follow after but safe to say in the first quarter,” MNTC Senior Vice-President, Legal, Regulatory and Government Relations Romulo S. Quimbo, Jr., told reporters in a media briefing in Makati City.
Beep cards are accepted at the Light Rail Transit (LRT)-1, LRT-2, in the Metro Rail Transit line 3 (MRT-3), in the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), in select bus lines — HM Transport, BGC Bus, Citylink Coach Services, Inc. Froehlich Tours, and RRCG Transport — and recently AF Payments, Inc. (AFPI) ventured into retail and partnered with Japanese convenience store chain Family Mart.
The beep card is valid for four years and is reloadable at any LRT or MRT station and in over 70 outlets of Bayad Center, Tambunting, Villarica, and SM Bills Payment.
