BUSTOS, Bulacan, Philippines – President Aquino led the groundbreaking and launching of two water projects in Bulacan on Friday.

In his speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bulacan bulk water supply project in San Jose del Monte City, the President said Bulakenyos would be supplied with potable water at a much lower cost, noting that the winning bidder offered a rate of only P8.50 per cubic meter.

Aquino was also briefed by Edgar Dona, operations head of San Miguel Holdings Corp., on the status of the rehabilitation of Bustos Dam, which supplies water to irrigate rice fields in Bulacan and parts of Pampanga.

The government has allotted P1 billion to rehabilite Bustos Dam. Under the project, the six rubber gates will be replaced with sprinklers to make it more resistant to heat and other external factors.

The President said the dam’s rehabilitation would be completed in August 2017.

Aquino said his administration also initiated the P3.41-billion flood control project in the Valenzuela-Obando-Meycauayan area to address flooding in Bulacan.
