INITIAL TOLL rates for Phase 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Expressway has been approved by the Toll Regulatory Board, according to a bulletin published in a newspaper yesterday.

The almost two-kilometer thoroughfare, which connects the Skyway from Makati City to the NAIA complex in Pasay City, has been completed earlier this year, according to reports.

According to the published matrix, Class 1 vehicles (jeepneys, pick-ups, vans and cars) will be charged with P35, while Class 2 vehicles (light trucks and buses) will be charged P70.

The toll rates will take effect starting Nov. 16.

The extension of the expressway to Parañaque City, or the NAIA Expressway Phase 2 project, has been put under the government’s public-private partnership thrust.

Construction of the additional five-kilometer expressway with ramps under Phase 2 was set for bidding next year. The contract includes the operation and maintenance of the whole system, including Phase 1.
