The Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center of the Philippines lent its support for the recently launched Light Rail Tansit (LRT) Quick Response (QR) Ticketing Service held on May 25, 2023 at the LRT Line 1-Edsa Station in Pasay City.

PPP Center Executive Director (ED) Ma. Cynthia C. Hernandez lauded the efforts of Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) in utilizing innovative technology to provide commuters with a more convenient travel experience. The freshly minted QR ticketing system will not only reduce waiting and queuing times, but also ensure safety through contactless transactions, reduce waste from printed receipts, and allows online transaction monitoring through a smartphone application.

LRMC has successfully become the first railway operator in Asia to implement the QR ticketing system for single-journey passengers.

ED Hernandez emphasized that this achievement underscores the benefits of PPPs.

“PPPs enable us to access, the innovation, efficiency, and entrepreneurial spirit of the private sector and also help us avail of technological advancements faster than it would be if it’s the government who will implement these transformations,” she concluded.

The event was also graced by the presence of LRMC President and CEO Juan Alfonso, Maya President Shailesh Baidwan, and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Managing Director and Officer-in-Charge of Payments and Currency Development Subsector, Bella Santos.
