The Philippine Country Workshop on Public-Private Partnership, jointly organized by Philippine Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center and the Asia PPP Network, was held at ADB Headquarters, Manila on 5 April 2011.

This is the first leg of implementation of the a Capacity Development Technical Development Assistance of the Asian development Bank of the Philippines, co-financed by the Australian Agency for International Development (AUSAID) and the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), to strengthen Public-Private Partnerships in the Philippines. The TA intends to improve government’s capacity to promote, develop, and implement PPP projects. The commitment of the PPP Centerto strengthen the competencies of key infrastructure agencies, as mandated through Executive Order 8, will be reinforced through this TA.

The theme of the recently concluded April PPP workshop is to orient the line departments on the overall PPP project development cycle and on how the feasibility study needs to be prepared to deliver projects that address project sustainability.  The training program featured clinic-type parallel sessions for different sectors, such as transport and health, where specific ‘live’ project concerns were addressed by a panel of PPP specialists.

The Department of Public Works and Highways, the Department of Education, and Department of Health presented their projects, as case studies for discussion throughout the event. Counterpart presentations on health, education, and transportation sectors were made by PPP project development specialists from the Asia PPP Network (APN).

The participants of the workshop are from the Socio-Economic Planning, Department of Agriculture, Office of the Solicitor General, Department of Transportation and Communications, Department of Tourism, Intramuros Administration, Philippine Navy, and the Department of National Defense were among the government agencies present during the workshop. Representativesfrom law firms and private companies were also in attendance.
