Gov't, LRMC inaugurate newly improved LRT 1 Doroteo Jose station

The government and the private partner for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) 1 Cavite Extension and Operation & Maintenance Public-Private Partnership (PPP) project, Light Rail Manila Consortium (LRMC), inaugurated the newly upgraded Doroteo Jose Station in a ceremony on February 6, 2017. The ceremonial inauguration was attended by LRTA Administrator General Reynaldo Berroya, LRMC President and CEO Rogelio Singson, Chief Executive Officer of Ayala Corporation Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala, AC Infrastructure Holdings Corporation Director Fernando Zobel de Ayala, and Metro Pacific President Joey Lim. The Doroteo Jose Station is set to provide service, with interconnection to LRT 2, a daily average of 27,000 passengers. The improvement of the station started on December 2015.

According to LRMC, some of the improvements in the stations are “the six escalators and two elevators are now back in operation. The restored elevators and escalators also include upgrades incorporating PWD-compliant features such as Braille buttons, accessibility of location of the controls to persons in wheelchairs, among others. The station is now well-lit and organized to allow better passenger flow.” The station now has a better ambience and a ceiling fan was installed to improve ventilation.

Other stations that have started their refurbishments are Gil Puyat, Pedro Gil, Central, R.Papa, Abad Santos, United Nations and EDSA.

On October 2, 2014, the Government, through the DOTr and the LRTA, have entered into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) contract with LRMC, led by the Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) and Ayala Corporation, to undertake the Php64.9 billion PPP project. The extension of LRT-1 will add an additional 11.7 kilometers to the line, from the current 20.7 km to 32.4 km, starting from Muñoz in Quezon City to Bacoor, Cavite. Eight new stations will be built along this route. Through this PPP project, nearly 4 million people living in Cavite and nearby provinces will benefit from a better commuter experience.
