Amidst an air of festivities and high spirits, Citicore-Megawide Inc.  led by Louie Ferrer, turned over some 500 completed classrooms to Education Secretary Bro. Armin Luistro under the country’s first PPP Social Infrastructure project, the PPPs for School Infrastructure Project Phase 1. The turnover ceremony was held in San Jose del Monte National Trade School in Bulacan, one of the recipients of the PSIP.

The completed classrooms built for Regions 3 and 4A are part of the 9,300 classrooms to be constructed using the Build-Lease and Transfer mode of the BOT Law under the country’s Public-Private Partnership Program.

PPP Center Executive Director Cosette V. Canilao expressed her gratefulness to be part of a major milestone under the PPP program saying that, “We are not just constructing classrooms. We are providing hope for our youth.”

Meanwhile Education Secretary Luistro reminded Citicore-Megawide Inc. that the classrooms must be delivered on time to help close the 66,800 classroom backlog of the country.

Citicore-Megawide for its part says that the PSIP buildings are a step forward for Philippine infrastructure, citing that PSIP helps raise engineering standards as well as benefit local economies.

Other recipients of the PSIP Phase I aside from Bulacan are Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga and Bataan.

Under the signed contract between DepEd and PSIP phase 1 project proponents Citicore-Megawide and BF Construction Corporation, both have 16 months to build 9,000 classrooms from the date of the contract signing. During the duration of the 10 year lease contract, the project proponents will take care of the maintenance requirements of the school which will be conducted every 4.5 years.
