MANILA – Operators of four major expressways are seeking rate increases, the Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) said Wednesday.

An average 20-percent adjustment has been sought for the North Luzon Expressway, South Luzon Expressway, Cavite Expressway, and the Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway, said TRB spokesman Bert Suansing.

The petitions filed by the operators, Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC) and Ayala Corp., will undergo public hearings, Suansing said.

Earlier petitions for a toll increase have not been acted upon by the TRB due to several issues, including a Supreme Court order that called for “just and reasonable” rates, he said.

The MNTC earlier filed for arbitration seeking P3 billion in compensation after being barred from increasing toll rates for several years.
