Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) today underscored the importance of public-private partnership to improve the country’s economy.

In today’s “Pilipinas Natin” program aired over government-owned radio and tv networks, Sec. Abad said the country’s economy will not prosper if only government will be involved in economic growth. “We need involvement from the private sector,” Abad said.

Abad further thanked the private sector for giving their trust and confidence to the national government. The budget chief said that in the first quarter of 2011, total investments amounted to Php 163 billion. Of these, P140 billion came from the private Filipino investors.

“Ibig sabihin ay napakalaki ang tiwala ng mga local businessmen na gobyernong ito ay tunay na magpapatupad ng pagbabago kaya itinataya nila ang kanilang capital upang makatulong sa paglago ng ating ekonomiya” (This means that our local businessmen trust that this government will truly implement change that is why they putting in capital to help improve our economy), Abad said.

This, according to Abad, is a clear evidence that the private sector will do their share as they believe that the Aquino administration has the capacity to uplift and improve the economic status of the country.

Sec. Abad further assured that with the trust and confidence that the Filipino people are giving to the Aquino administration, officials in the government will also do their best to realize the dreams and aspirations of every Filipino towards a straight and narrow path (tungo sa daang matuwid).
