THE Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Center disclosed on Tuesday that nearly 10,000 classrooms have already been completed and delivered through the two phases of the PPP for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP).

PPP data showed that around 8,870 classrooms have been completed and delivered in the Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley and Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) under the P16.43 billion PSIP 1.

This is below the original target of building a total of 9,303 one- and two-story classrooms, including furniture and fixtures, in various sites in the Ilocos Region, Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

Data showed that around 416 classrooms, or 4.47 percent, are still being built, while 16 classrooms, or 0.17 percent, are still in the pre-construction stage.

The winning bidders for the project are the consortium of BF Corp. and Riverbanks Development Corp., as well as Citicore Holdings Investment Inc.-Megawide Construction Corp.

Under the P3.86 billion PSIP II, PPP data showed that around 1,020 classrooms have been completed and delivered in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

Data also showed that around 1,434 classrooms, or 33 percent, are undergoing construction, while the remaining 1,916 classrooms, or 44 percent, are in the preconstruction stage.

The private proponents for PSIP II are Megawide and the consortium of BSP Co. Inc. and Vicente Lao Construction.

Both projects aim to supplement the current program of the Department of Education in reducing classroom backlog.
