March 7, 2011 – MANILA, Philippines (Xinhua) – The government launched today the first batch of public-private partnership (PPP) projects, worth over a billion dollars, lined up for bidding this year.

President Aquino, who led the launching ceremony, said that the projects will “undoubtedly further stimulate” the Philippine economy, which has already experienced unprecedented success in recent months.

The first batch of PPP projects that are ready for bidding include the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway Phase Two, the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX)-South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) Link Expressway, the Daang Hari-SLEX Link Road Project and the privatization of the operation and maintenance of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 and Light Rail Transit Line 1.

“With an estimated investment of more than a billion dollars lined up for bidding, these projects give us more reason to be optimistic: we can expect thousands of jobs for our people, growth in our economy, and long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships with large corporations,” Mr. Aquino said.

“Through projects such as the ones we are inaugurating today, we are beginning to show the world that change is not just a word that politicians throw around. We are beginning to show them how change can and should reach ordinary citizens,” he added.
