MANILA, Philippines – Two more companies expressed interests for the auction for the operation and maintenance of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT).

Hernando Cabrera, spokesperson of Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), said Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation and Spain’s CAF, S.A. Construcciones Y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles S.A. Padilla have purchased bid documents for the P14 billion operation and maintenance of LRT Line 1 and MRT 3.

Other foreign companies who purchase the P500,000 bid documents were Marubeni Corp.,Sumitomo Corp. Serco and Finmeccanica.

Local companies that will join the bidding were Metro Pacific Light Rail Corp., Ayala Corp.,San Miguel Corp.’s Optimal Infrastructure Development Inc.; Jorgman Planning & Development’t Corp.; Romero’s Ecorail Transport Services Inc., APT Global Inc., Kempal United Corp. and Abratique & Asso. Phil. Inc.

The pre-bid conference is scheduled on May 16, while the opening of the bids is on July 11.

“We expect the notice of award in July… We want the winning bidder to be on board for a six-month transition. By January 2012, we hope it can start the operation,” said Ruben Reinoso, chairman of the DOTC-Special Bids and Awards Committee.
