MANILA – The government said Tuesday it awarded the rights to build the new Clark International Airport terminal to the Megawide-GMR Consortium.
The new terminal will add 8 million to the capacity of the airport, which serves as an alternative to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. Groundbreaking was scheduled on Wednesday, the Bases Conversion Development Authority said in a statement.
Megawide-GMR’s P9.36 billion bid was the lowest submitted, the BCDA said, beating proposals from China State Construction Engineering Corp, China Harbour Engineering Co, Sinohydro Corp, and the consortium of Tokwing Construction Corp and China Machinery Engineering Corp.
The Clark Airport is among the first in the government’s pipeline of “hybrid” projects that uses state funds to build the structures while the operations and maintenance is left to the private sector.
