ALL the domestic and international departures at the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) are expected to go back to Terminal 1 (T1) by July this year.

MCIA General Manager Julius “Jayjay” Neri told SunStar Cebu that as of Saturday, April 9, 2022, all departing passengers were still accommodated at the Terminal 2.

“Still the same. We go back to normal on July 1 if there are no delays,” said Neri.

It can be recalled that all the domestic and international departures at the MCIA were transferred to Terminal 2 (T2) since January 16 to facilitate repairs in some of the airport’s structures that were damaged by Typhoon Odette (Rai) in December last year.

Neri, however, said there is no delay in the repair and stressed that it is scheduled to finish on June 30.

Officials of Megawide’s airport subsidiary, GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC), decided to transfer the flights considering that the damage to T1 has been extensive which required an immediate rectification program that would last for several months.

Despite that, domestic arrivals continue to arrive at T1’s South Wing Arrivals since the area obtained less damage compared to other sections.

International arrivals, on the other hand, continue to arrive at T2 Arrivals in order to remain fully compliant with the health protocols set for arriving passengers by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID). (MKG).
