The Korea Export Import Bank (Eximbank) has already signified its interest to finance the P19 billion project of the Jalaur River Multi-Purpose Project II (JRMP II) through a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme.

Subsequently, interested Korean construction firms are currently conducting inspections of the site to validate the 2010 Feasibility Study (FS) relative to the project.

The document will form part of their proposal to be submitted to the Eximbank, which, in turn, will determine whether or not they will be granted the fund needed for the construction of the project.

Meantime, the NIA regional office under its manager Gerardo Corsiga, revealed that the process relative to the acquiring of the environmental compliance certificate (ECC) will start by third week of the month.

The Sustainable Development Solutions has been awarded the contract to secure and evaluate documents to ensure that they satisfactorily pass the requirements of the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) relative to the ECC.

The JRMP II is one the major projects of the convergence initiatives of three government agencies namely Department of Agriculture (DA), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) and the DENR.

It is expected to benefit 20 municipalities and one component city of Iloilo province, specifically the irrigation of 34,340 hectares of rice lands that will result to some 222, 229 tons of total rice production annually, 11.5 megawatts of hydro-electric power and 86, 400 cubic meter daily of domestic water supply.

The project includes the construction of a 106-meter hard-fill dam, three reservoirs, three catch dams and improvement of five existing irrigation systems.
