THE GOVERNMENT has rolled out another public-private partnership (PPP) deal, yesterday calling on firms to bid for the second phase of a nationwide schoolbuilding project.

“The Department of Education invites parties to apply to pre-qualify to bid for the design, financing, construction and maintenance of one-storey, two-storey, three-storey, and four-storey schoolbuildings,” a notice for the PPP School Infrastructure Program-Phase 2 (PSIP-2) published in a newspaper read.

The PSIP-2, approved last month, involves the construction of 10,679 classrooms in 5,033 schools in 14 regions. The first phase, the P16.42-billion PSIP-1 that involves the construction of 9,300 classrooms in Luzon, was awarded last September.

The PSIP-2 is one of two PPP projects the government wants to add to its rollout list before the year ends. The other is a P17.51-billion Mactan-Cebu International Airport development. — Kathryn Mae P. Tubadeza
