MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education said Tuesday that 9,9296 classrooms have been constructed and delivered in Regions 1, 3 and 4-A as of December 4, marking the completion of the first phase of the agency’s first public-private partnership project.

The one- and two-story classrooms, which come with furniture and fixtures, are expected to benefit more than 400,000 students, the DepEd said.

The PPP for School Infrastructure Project, or PSIP, was procured through a competitive two-stage public bidding projects, which saw government signing a concession agreement with two firms — Bright Future Educational Facilities Inc. and Citicore Holdings Investment Inc.-Megawide Construction Corp. — on October 8, 2012.

Phase 2 of the PSIP will benefit the Cordillera Administrative Region and Regions 1, 2, 3, 5 and 13. As of October 31, 1,690 classrooms have been completed and delivered for this phase, the DepEd said.
