The new passenger terminal of Clark International Airport (CRK) is on track to be operational by June, according to the Department of Transportation.
The new passenger building (PTB) will have a capacity of 8 million passengers per year, double than the capacity of the existing terminal.
Joshua Bingcang, president of Clark International Airport, said the old terminal will eventually be decommissioned but will be reopened if traffic exceeds the 8-million capacity of the new PTB.
In a statement, the DOTr said the new terminal is now 93.31 percent complete: preparation works, earth works, foundation and substructure works, superstructure works, hollow core slab and the roof structure and sheeting.
Ongoing works which are in various stages of completion include the exterior finishes, ancillary facilities, specialist systems and equipment, as well as the landside works.
The new terminal is being built by the Megawide Construction Corp. and GMR Infrastructure Ltd.
Once finished by mid-2020, Clark airport’s capacity will increase to 12.2 million passengers annually.
Last August, the DOTr and the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) formally turned over to LIPAD Corp. the 25-year contract to operate and maintain the existing and new terminal of Clark International Airport.
LIPAD is the consortium of Filinvest Development Corp., JG Summit Holdings Inc., Philippine Airport Ground Support Solutions Inc., and Changi Airports Philippines Pt. Ltd.
Under the contract, LIPAD will remit to BCDA a percentage share of 18.25 percent of annual gross revenues, on top of the concession fee amounting to P500 million per year for 20 years according to Clark International Airport Authority (CIAC) annual report last year.
