MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III will lead this week the launching of a 14.8-kilometer skyway that will connect the North Luzon Expressway and South Luzon Expressway.

Stage 3 of the Skyway connector road will stretch from Buendia in Makati City to Balintawak in Quezon City.

“Expected to be completed in 2017, this project is a tangible sign of the progress that can be attained when the public and private sector work together,” Malacanang spokesman Edwin Lacierda said at a briefing aired over state-run Radyo ng Bayan on Monday.

“The Skyway Stage 3 will not only benefit Metro Manila citizens by decongesting traffic; it will also stimulate trade and travel throughout Luzon,” Lacierda said.

Citra Central Expressway Corp., a unit of San Miguel Corp., is expected to start excavation and piling work along Osmena Highway, from F. Torres Street to Quirino Avenue in Manila.

The P26.5-billion project is expected to be completed within 36 months.

Other partners in the Skyway Stage 3 project include Citra Lamtoro Gung Persada and the Philippine National Construction Corp.
