Philippines-Australia Roundtable with the Australian Trade and Investments Commission

The governments of the Philippines and Australia initiated a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Roundtable on January 27 at the PPP Center highlighting the present administration’s directions and plans for PPPs.

The roundtable served as a platform for Australian companies to solicit updates and new developments in the country’s PPP program especially with the installation of the new government last year. It was also a venue for them to raise some of their concerns and provide their suggestions in improving the PPP process. The PPP Center provided the participants a short background of the Philippine PPP Program and the list of PPP projects in the current pipeline.

The different companies were interested in PPP projects aside from the transport projects such as airports and mass transits in the pipeline under the Department of Transportation (DOTr). They are keen to participate in PPP projects from various implementing agencies (IAs). They also suggest to improve the current PPP bidding process to encourage more competitions and fast-track the PPP projects implementation.

The Australian companies that attended the roundtable are Indra, GHD Philippines, Macquarie Infrastructure, Ashurst, Aurecon, BMD Constructions, Macquarie, and ANZ. Austrade and Australia-Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade were also present.
