Mayor Eric Saratan yesterday said work on the Talisay City Public Plaza Heritage Complex, which will start with the construction of a new market for the city is expected to begin in June next year.
Saratan said the heritage complex is being built with the help of the Public Private Partnership Center of the Philippines, with the aim of making Talisay a pilot city for urban renewal.
Talisay City made the concept design for the heritage complex, the PPP Center came up with the pre feasibility study and construction will be undertaken by the winning investor, he said.
Among the private developers who have expressed interest in the project are SM, Robinsons and Ayala, but a bidding will have to be conducted, Saratan said.
He said the new market alone that cost about P280 million will be managed by the city government and that will house the original vendors in the present market.
If all goes according to schedule work on the market will start on June 2013 and will be completed on September 2014, Saratan said.
The complex will cover the public market, plaza, the old jail, fire department and old city hall, city administrator, Jovim Entila, had said earlier.
The old city hall will be turned into a heritage building, Saratan added.*CPG
