MWM Terminals, the consortium of Megawide Corp. and WM Property Management Inc., should be able to complete construction of the P3.2-billion Integrated Transport System (ITS)-Southwest Terminal Project by June 2017, the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) said on Friday.
“MWM has to start construction eight months from signing date, which is December 2015 and complete construction 18 months from construction start date in June 2017,” DOTC spokesperson Michael Arthur Sagcal said in a text message.
DOTC awarded the project to MWM Terminals in January this year. The company and the DOTC signed today the concession agreement for the project.
MWM Terminals won the bid to build and operate the terminal after offering the lowest annual grantor payment of P100 million.
Set to be built along the Manila-Cavite Expressway in Parañaque, the P3.27 billion terminal is designed to provide seamless transfers between different modes of transportation.
The terminal will accommodate provincial and metro buses as well as other public utility vehicles. The mixed-use development will also feature a mall and office spaces for the convenience of passengers.
Construction will be completed by 2017. “We are proud to once again partner with DOTC on such a landmark project. With the Southwest Terminal, we are able to facilitate the faster and more efficient flow of traffic carrying people and goods to and from Metro Manila. It will benefit thousands of commuters daily. Our infrastructure is finally catching up to our growing economy,” said Louie Ferrer, representative of MWM Terminals.
“We visited a number of intermodal transport systems in foreign countries, most recently in Melbourne, Australia. We were inspired by the advancements they have made in terms of facility and operation. We are hopeful that we can apply the same forward-thinking processes in our country,” he said.
The terminal is Megawide’s 5th PPP project. It recently turned over completed classrooms for the PPP for School Infrastructure Project (PSIP) Phase 1 with its partner Citicore Investment Holdings, Inc.
It is also the operator of the Mactan Cebu International Airport with India-based GMR Infrastructure Ltd, a project recently nominated as
Best Transit Project in the 2015 Partnerships Awards.
Megawide is also engaged in PSIP Phase 2 and the modernization of the Philippine Orthopedic Center.
The Integrated Terminal System will establish three mass intermodal terminals at the outskirts of Metro Manila—one north of EDSA, serving passengers to and from Northern Luzon; and two in the south, serving passengers to and from Laguna/Batangas side and those to and from Cavite side.
The terminals will connect passengers from the province to other urban transport systems—railway, city bus, taxi and PUV-serving inner Metro Manila.
The southwest terminal, which will be built on a 2.9-hectare area, will connect passengers coming from Cavite to other urban transport systems, such as city buses, taxis and other public utility vehicles that serve the inner Metro Manila, as well as the future LRT1 South Extension.
The ITS-Southwest Terminal will include a passenger terminal building, arrival and departure bays, public information systems, ticketing and baggage handling facilities and park-ride facilities.
MWM will build, operate and manage the terminal for 35 years.
