It is a P2.8-billion, 13,700-square-meter project that will connect the LRT1, MRT3, and MRT7

MANILA, Philippines – Construction of the common station for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT) and Light Rail Transit (LRT) will begin December this year, after the government and the private builders finally signed a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday, January 18.

The MRT-LRT common station is a P2.8-billion, 13,700-square-meter project to be built between SM North EDSA and TriNoma malls in Quezon City. It will connect the LRT1, the MRT3, and also the MRT7, which is targeted for completion in 2020.

The common station will have 3 main areas:

  • Area A where the platform and concourse for LRT1 and MRT3 are located
  • Area B where the two concourses connecting Areas A and C are located
  • Area C where the platform for MRT7 is located

The common station’s target completion date is 2019.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said its benefits include “seamless transfer from one line to another, [a] convenient walk for platform transfers, [a] bigger space, and connection to two major malls” – SM North EDSA and TriNoma.
